A figment of one's reality.

Hmmm. I think the fig jam is fig paste

I thought this one was growing leaves the other day- and here we are, first to the finish line for this group of fig cuttings. This one is Celeste and there are roots as well. This one arrived in the mail Feb 27th and it probably took me a few days to bag it up. It's crazy how fast some of them root. That's less than 20 days to roots and leaves for this one. I think one of my Campaniere figs may also have roots. These are so much fun to grow. #gardening #figs

Getting ready for local food swap this weekend

One of the great things about being back on my bike is I can go foraging.

I knew of a fig tree hanging over the back fence of a factory but it was too far away to walk and awkward to drive.

Most of the figs aren't fully ripe so I put olive oil over the fruit end. Any other tips for ripening/softening figs?

Ran out of things to do with the #figs so made some #jam

Mid Summer to Early Autumn here are peak times for figs. I used to look forward to that time so much and even had a local green grocer who stocked figs from the first moment of ripening until the last fig of the latest fig variety falls from the tree.

Sadly, my #naturopathRestrictedFoods includes sugars, even from fruit with few exceptions.

Anyway, I loved to grab some figs and indulge (they are not cheap). Also, there is a Pick-Your-Own place in the Adelaide Hills we would visit at least once during the season, especially if I wanted to make jam (fig jam is one of my favourite jams). They are quite a bit cheaper there and it is a lot of fun.

I love figs so much, I had quite a few recipes that I would make. This pic is my take on an #Ottolenghi recipe from his book #Plenty. Fig and roasted onion salad.

Worth the effort, the ones u buy are so dry and bland. #driedfruit #figs

Adelaide peeps - Pick Your Own Figs from the Glen Ewin estate in the hills NE of Adelaide opens in a couple of weeks. I did this every couple of years, just getting enough for a batch of jam and a few recipes, plus some for snacking on. But now my #NaturopathRestrictedFoods limits fruit and sugars.

It's a lovely way to spend a morning or afternoon. Try to select less popular times. Take notice of their guidelines like wearing covered shoes. Some of the ground is quite sloped.

Always check times at https://www.freshfigs.com.au/ (which says picking starts on 24th. Maybe call to confirm.)
