New leaf on my Ficus Elastica. Need to pluck up the courage to chop his head off now so that it’ll branch out and become bushier!

Oops, bought a Ficus Elastica for £3.99 and a new Monstera for £5.99 from Lidl. Hopefully can keep them alive unlike the old Monstera! Fortunately I have a lot more knowledge now thanks to “Sheffield Made Plants” on the YouTubes.

I repotted my bushy ficus elastica yesterday and removed a few leaves, and all seemed fine. However, since this morning it seems to spread an odd and slightly bitter smell. DuckDuckGo has been absolutely no help in finding the cause. It just says root rot a dozen times over but I know for a fact the roots are fine. I've seen and touched and smelled them yesterday. xD

The stem has me a bit worried, it started to get some spotty areas, but that has been that while for a month or two, so it's hardly a reason for any recent change. Internet said spots might be 1000 reasons, starting with a lack of minerals, so I added some fertilizing sticks. (The soil before was super wet at the bottom and super dry in the rest of the pot, and I found a barely dissolved fertilizer stick in the old soil. So a lack of minerals is not super unlikely.)

Be that as it may, the fact remains that any visual issue has been there for a while and was the reason why I considered repotting it in the first place. It doesn't explain why it started to smell so strongly all of the sudden. Anyone here who might have an idea? Is it simply what happens after one cut off some leaves and the plant needs to heal or anything like this?
