#FolkloreThursday #Celtic: In the Fianna legends we meet up with #Aonbharr as the horse of the 'Gille Decair', the Bad Servant, who is #Manannan himself in disguise. None of the #Fianna succeeded in even getting the mare to move, until eventually she took off at an alarming rate with Conan on her back, whom she took away to the #Otherworld. He later had to be rescued by the #Fianna. The Gille Decair himself is the only one who can control his horse, for rather than dominating it as the master, he is in fact its servant, the servant of the #Goddess.`

#FolkloreThursday #Celtic: `In order not to let the enchanted pigs of #AngusOg come back to life, they were to be burned over a fire, otherwise they would have fought the #Fianna again the next day. At first the attempt failed. Eventually Bran, the #Otherworld hound of #Fionn Mac Cumhaill, fetched three logs (three types of wood that could combat enchantments) and the pigs were burned on the fire from these logs. Then there was a great sorrow on Angus, for the pigs had been his people, one of them his own son.`

#MythologyMonday: #Aillen mac Midhna is an incendiary being in #Irish mythology. Called "the burner", he burned #Tara to the ground every Samhain for 23 consecutive years. This only ended with the arrival of #Fionn Mac Cumhaill, who inhaled the poison from the enchanted Spear of Fiacha, a.k.a. Birgha (the Spit-Spear), to keep himself awake and slew #Aillen. The act won him the leadership of the #Fianna.` #Celtic

#MythologyMonday: `Airitech had three daughters who were werewolves. Every #Samhain, they emerged from the Cave of Cruachan, said to be a gateway to the #Otherworld, to kill sheep. They liked music, so the poet Cas Corach played his harp to distract them, and persuaded them to change back into their human form. Caoilte, a warrior of the #Fianna, then cast a spear that penetrated all three at once, and so they were killed.` #Celtic

#FolkloreSunday: `3 young warriors joined the #Fianna, but made it a condition that they shall camp apart from the rest of the host, and that when night has fallen no man shall come near them or see them, because one of them had to die each night. The mystery of why this had to happen could never be solved by #Fionn Mac Cumhaill.`
