We love spotting a pretty plant growing out of a wall! In this case, it's a fern along Victoria Road in Swindon.

If you've got a photo of a wild plant staking their claim on a wall, post it in the comments!

Some fernage from todays walk round Caldbeck, soft shield, harts-tongue and common polypody. I like the glossy sheen to the harts-tongue. The damp woodland had ideal growing conditions for ferns and moss #fernsofmastodon #Bryology

Bird's-foot cliffbrake, (Pellaea mucronata), another one of our arid-adapted ferns in the Lakeview Mountains. Same genus as the coffee cliffbrake, posted a few days ago. I often find this one growing out of cracks in the rocks.

This is Newberry's Lip Fern (Myriopteris newberryi): one of three species of fern that I've observed growing in these arid, rocky hills. The "lip" in the name supposedly has something to do with the shape of the fronds. Lakeview Mountains, last Thursday.

Inside the fabulous #fernery at #PictonCastle in my home county of #Pembrokeshire. This is a recreation of the original fernery which was built in 1890, and it includes some beautiful #fern species that are native to Australia, New Zealand, China, Thailand, Taiwan....
