This goes for everybody who needs to closely follow a topic, too, not just in security:

»in many security teams, we still collect this information in the most fragile way possible: by manually checking websites, relying on algorithmic social platforms, scraping pages that were never designed for machine consumption, or subscribing to closed platforms that add friction instead of removing it.

This is why RSS needs to come back in operational security.

Not as nostalgia. Not as a retro technology for bloggers. But as a simple, robust, auditable, automatable transport format for change detection and information sharing.«

To be clear: there is still quite an amount of websites that provide #RSS feeds. Start using a #FeedReader, and enjoying a uniform view on your sources of information.

My #FeedReader tells me that I've read/skimmed over forty-two thousand posts via #feeds this year. Feeds are not dead. #RSS

I've released v1.2.0 of OldNews, my #TheOldReader client for the #terminal. This version adds some cleaning/filtering to the full article grab facility, explained here: https://oldnews.davep.dev/grab_filters/

Grab Filters - OldNews

I've just released v1.1.0 of OldNews, a #terminal client for #TheOldReader. The main change in this release is to add the ability to download and display the text of a page for an article you're viewing; useful for those sites that are stingy with the summary in the feed.

Looking back at January, I am watching **way too much** YouTube, particularly Shorts 😬 I also haven't touched my feed reader in *months*!

Let's see what happens in Feb if I delete the YouTube app on my phone, and reorder my apps so that Reader is where it was 🤞

https://capyreader.com by @_jocmp is a new and open source #feedreader. It's been in development for a while and now it is good enough that I switched to it from FocusReader's paid version. CapyReader doesn't have some fancy features that FocusReader does, but that's okay, I didn't use them anyway. I miss some features like jumping to a feed from list of entries or sorting #feeds by number of unreads, but that's manageable. Hopefully, CapyReader will get these features and more as it matures. It is going to be my recommended feed reader on #Android from now.

Neues Jahr - neue Feeds:
