#Texas & 15 other #Republican-led states sued the #Biden admin on Friday seeking to halt a new program that could give #legal status to hundreds of thousands of #undocumented #immigrants who are #married to #UScitizens.
Filed just days after the program opened for applications, the lawsuit is the latest in a string of legal actions Texas has led challenging federal #immigration policies & #FederalPower.
President Andrés Manuel #LópezObrador [#AMLO] of #Mexico … has also called on the #UnitedStates to suspend #sanctions against #Venezuela & lift the blockade against #Cuba, saying that such measures would reduce #migration flows from those countries. And he has called proposals to build walls or close the #border as “electoral propaganda.”
…While #Mexico has served as the #UnitedStates’ #immigration enforcer, often discouraging migrants from massing at the #border, the country has also publicly pushed for two key policies to address the root causes that force people out of their home countries — such as #poverty, #violence, #inequality & #ClimateChange — & expand regular pathways for #migration.
Prof. Torres states #HaalandvBrackeen is a case about #federalpower and quotes Justice Amy Coney Barrett's opinion, "It is plenary within its sphere, but even a sizeable sphere has borders."
