Dag 4716 – 王菲 – 夢中人

Afgelopen weekend keek ik op Cinetree de film Chungking Express van regisseur Wong Kar-wai. In de film komt een cover van The Cranberries song Dreams een aantal keer voor. Het nummer wordt in het Kantonees gezongen door de zangeres/actrice Faye Wong, die in de film ook een kleine rol heeft. Het klinkt bekend en tegelijkertijd verrassend exotisch. 夢中人 is te vertalen als Dream Person.

Een half jaar later nam ze de Cranberries cover opnieuw op, nu met een tekst in het Mandarijn: 掙脫, wat te vertalen is als Elude. Tekstueel lijkt de cover dus steeds verder weg te drijven van het origineel.

Forgot it was BBC6Music's T-Shirt Day until I tuned in but as every day is a band shirt day in this house I'm wearing an Emmy the Great 'Trellick Tower' shirt which must date from around 2011.

Coincidentally the first song I heard this morning was the Cranberries' Dreams which Emma-Lee covers via Faye Wong's Cantonese version.

No selfie as I don't do selfies but that is cool on fedi, right? 😎
