The thing that surprises me most with #fascism is how that don't even bother to hide their intentions. They don't care, and it doesn't cause them to lose any support

In the #USA they are doing a #currency #coinage redesign and they... just fucking dropped the #OliveBranch from the design of the #Eagle symbol, which has been there for 250 years

Are they going to replace the missing Olive Branch with the fascist #Fasces symbol next year?

No pärskeles, Ruotsin kunkut olivatkin alkuperäisiä fasisteja! #kielijuttuja #etymologia

The #fasces as a bundle of wooden rods tied together in the Roman era literally stood as a symbol of the physical, violent beating you would receive for resisting.

I think about those rods a lot.

In the the middle of the 20th Century it became associated with Musollini's National Fascist Party in Italy, and indeed the term Fascism is derived from the term Fasces. Despite this, fasces are still used as a symbols today, including by the French Army, the Guardia Civil in Spain and on the Seal of the United States Senate.

Originating with the Etruscans about 3,000 years ago, it's now most commonly associated with the Romans where it was a symbol of a magistrate's power. In the 19th Century is was commonly used to indicate civil power and the collective rule of law, explaining this example on a former police office in Laurieston.

If you look carefully, you'll see this symbol carved on a variety of older Glasgow buildings. It's called a Fasces and it represents a bundle of wooden rods wrapped round an axe and a blade.

Here's the thing about the #fasces--the traditional icon of #fascism. It's a bundle of sticks (meant to show that the group is stronger than the individual), but those sticks are unnaturally identical. No long sticks, no short sticks, no notches or twists or curves, no fat or thin ones--they're all exactly, precisely alike. And that seems apt, considering how fascists usually treat folks who deviate from their arbitrary standard.

We're not #sticks. We're people. We're meant to be different.
