This rec is specifically for the first chapter of this fic! I can't speak much to my thoughts on Zelda's characterization, as I'm rather rusty on LoZ, but Sonic felt so in character here!

The fic starts with him sitting on a rooftop watching the sunrise as he listens to the radio (Referencing his penchant for chilling on rooftops in Sonic X!). Zelda somehow knows to find him up there, and he chats with her while trying not to be too obvious about his crush on her, even as she seems more aware of it than he hoped...

The fic gives a nice, atmospheric overview of the setting and the basic premise of Smash in the beginning, so it can also be read fandom-blind. The author even included the name of the jazz song Sonic and Zelda are listening to! (I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the genre prior)

A lot of fans see Sonic as a hyperactive character who is very flirty with his love interests. While I can see that in spin-off media like the films or Western shows, that’s not how he acts in the games. Besides, I find it so much more interesting when a normally confident character has difficulty showing their messier feelings, and this fic really nailed that side of Sonic.

I was bracing myself for him to be aggressively forward towards Zelda, but I loved his shyness even as he tried to put up a casual front around her. I highly recommend this if you also like this interpretation of Sonic!

Note: I only read up to the Sonic x Zelda portion in the first chapter, but there's another section in the first chapter featuring Lucina/Palutena as a pairing. Though the Sonzelda portion felt self-contained, and the ending was satisfying on its own!

An adorable one-shot centered on Alana and Seaspray's relationship post-Sea Change. Alana reflects on her relationship with Seaspray, and their place in Tlalakan society due to the nature of their bond. But a decent chunk of the fic is just Seaspray being an big awkward sweetheart around her, and it's soo endearing.

One of the reasons why I adore Cybertronian x human relationships is because of the tender care the robots have to show towards their human partners in things other couples wouldn't think twice about. This fic leans into that so well, and doesn't shy away from depicting their differences, while also showing them being...comfortable, and trusting of those differences.

And best of all? Seaspray stays in robot mode the whole time!   Not once does he transform into his organic form! Just gentle robot cuddles all around!
