@dkub My recent favorite is a security component that is curved to a specific version for reasons, and will downgrade itself if you upgrade it… even if this puts it into job-functional state and breaks VPN posture tests. Because using the version we tell you is better than things working. 🤦‍♂️

This is further enhanced by WiFi only in corp offices, where WiFi requires VPN to function. Good luck downloading a component upgrade to access VPN! 🤣

There was a *lot* of schadenfreude going around #Twitter X earlier this month about #cloudcomputing outages. I guess what goes around comes around. Where's the #failwhale when you need it... 🐳

@Moore I'm talking about all languages with standards bodies, but yes, TC39 is particularly #failwhale adjacent. There are lots of reasons, but the post-ES4 explosion of veto players at the hands of strict consensus sealed the deal:

How Do Committees Fail To Invent?

Conway's Law is generally discussed in the context of organisations trying to solve a problem. But what if there are defectors? And what if they could prevent all progress without paying a price? This problem is rarely analysed for the simple reason that such an organisation would be deranged. But what if it happened regularly, and even threatened the basis of web standards?

Early Twitter users made the #FailWhale a meme.

It used to be a common thing, and people kept going back…

Um mich in #whalebird bei openbiblio.social anzumelden, kam ich bis zum o.
Dann konnte ich nicht mehr tippen.
Früher - also früher!! - gab es dafür einen #failwhale

>> "This is amongst the longest #X / #Twitter #outages we've tracked in terms of duration, and the pattern is consistent with a denial of service attack targeting X's infrastructure at scale," says #Musk.

So, from #FailWhale to #CrashX 🤔

Can't wait for it to #Xpire.
