i was a very early adopter of online-ness. i was in the early times of Woolies online shopping, long long before Coles got theirs, & when Woolies' initial online presence was still small & hesitant.
many years earlier, i was early into ANZ Bank's online banking; they were the first, or one of, & the great majority of the populace were still doing physical banking, for a really long time after i'd been banking online for yonks.
a bit later, when Fairfax's SMH began their tentative steps into online news, running off a single pc in a basement, i enthusiastically began consuming it that way. none of their strayan msm competitors had similar, for another coupla years.
so, i like doing my doings online, it clicks with me, & i valued it before massive mainstreamness happened.
however, i have never, & will never [voluntarily], provide my biometric data for anything to anyone. i will drop or never start using any service that requires it. when i learned, several years ago, that nsw govt was introducing digital licences & pics, i gave my car away & let my licence expire.
you are not getting my fingerprints & face, you buncha bastards.
i am gobsmacked that so many peeps are so focused on convenience that they pay no regard at all to privacy & security. your face & prints databases WILL get hacked, your data WILL be stolen. Wotcha gonna do then, you fools? 😮🙄🤦♀️

NZ Privacy Commissioner is consulting on new rules for use and collecting of #biometrics data e.g by #FacialRecognitionTech (FRT), retinal scans, and voice recognition. Draft code will focus on :
1. Proportionality - will agencies' reasons for using biometric technologies to analyse info outweigh the privacy intrusion or risks?
2. Transparency - agencies to be open and transparent about collection and use.
3. Purpose limitations on collecting and using biometric info.

Proposals for congestion charging in Auckland may rely on tech similar to #FacialRecognitionTech. Waka Kotahi / NZTA says highway cameras with automated number plate recognition technology could be used for congestion charging.
Problem though with Readability.
Will NZTA fix this issue more quickly than MSD and DIA fix issues with false identifications due to racial bias in their Facial Recognition Tech?

NZ MSD will use new #FacialRecognitionTech with benefiticiaries from 20 November.
Concerns have been raised about possible racial bias.
US gov't tests suggest Daon AI algorithm works less well "on people of darker skin tones than on people of lighter skin tones".
MSD says beneficiaries may choose to use it, or stick with existing verification systems. For now anyway. Future use to check fraud hinted at.
