OSAKA -- Kaiyukan, an aquarium in Osaka, aims to attract more visitors from abroad as it marks its 35th anniversary in July. Aquarium officials have high hopes the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, which opens in April, will also bring in overseas tourists.The best-known aquarium in Japan's western Kansai region opened in 1990 in Tempozan Harbor Village, a redeveloped entertainment and shopping complex in the Osaka Bay area. In fiscal 2023, 2.8 million people visited Kaiyukan, surpassing the number reached before the COVID-19 pandemic and bringing the total number of visitors since its opening to 88 million.
