Wheelbarrow checked-out the newly commissioned Ionity charger in Invernessy this afternoon. It's a bit more civilised than the Rose St carpark basement, for sure.

302mi round trip to Hopeman and back. Squeaked home with 15% SoC / 35mi remaining on the GOM.

Also found Clasach Fault / Cove. Very impressive normal fault in Permian sandstone.

Yunnan: Charging the EV at a rural skyscraper, getting dusted by a gasoline three-wheeler, and still getting a 5 AM wake-up call from a rooster. 🏙️⚡🛺🐓

The future is here, but the village still runs the show. 😉

Minor kerfuffle with #evlife charging at my parents means it's going to be a two stop strategy getting home today. At least my policy of always having my #steamdeck when travelling pays off. To get to 80% charge is about one round of Vampire Survivors 😉

Mercedes identifies as an EV. I needed a charge.

I identify as a person who found the local traffic warden and pointed them in this general direction.

A £60 love letter was attached to their windscreen but I still didn't get my charge 😡 I ended up at McDonald's on an overpriced DC fast charger because of this sanitary wipe.

I drive an #EV van. I usually home charge it overnight but on the occasional I do have to charge at public chargers I'm absolutely amazed at the variety of them; this one uses the strips of lights up the side to show you how full your battery is. It's absolutely cool as!

After 7.5 years as a one car family (I impulsively sold my car and bought an e-bike) our busy schedule plus my partner’s new job has necessitated a new addition to the family.

The drive home proved to be a challenge due to limited fast charging options available for this car. However, as an urban runabout the 150 km in-town range of this 2017 Nissan Leaf is fantastic.

With only 60k km on the odometer and 93% of original range, this should make for a fantastic car for my son to learn to drive in. But I do hope he still loves to bike even after getting his driver license.

Someone finally built the car that charges itself.

Just talked to Robert Hoevers, CEO of Squad Mobility, about their solar-powered city car. Panel on the roof. Battery underneath. Park it in the sun, drive it around town—it just keeps charging.

Live somewhere sunny? You literally never plug in. The average person drives 12km a day for errands. This does 150km max range. The math works.

5,300 pre-orders. €1.5M in European funding. Production starts next year.
Street legal. Crash tested.
Robert put it simply: "It's like a second car."

Exactly. Not for highway commutes but perfect for the grocery run, city trip, the school drop-off and all those short trips where driving a massive polluting vehicle makes zero sense.

Sometimes the obvious solution just needed someone to build it.

This Solar EV Never Needs Charging (5,300 Pre-Orders in 1 Year)

6,000 Miles with the Ioniq 5

I’d wanted an electric car for a long time, but Musk’s products were a firm no. I thought I’d wait for Rivian in 2026, yet my old car was giving up faster than expected, so I ended up looking around and choosing the Ioniq 5.

The biggest advantage for me is the fast charging - 18 minutes and you’re ready to go again - a dream for someone who loves road trips. My recent drive from Minnesota to Tennessee was surprisingly easy. The advanced driver assist let me cover longer distances than I’d usually feel comfortable with. Charging breaks aligned perfectly with the moments when I needed to stretch or grab a coffee, and that trip finally cured my range anxiety.

What I didn’t expect was how comfortable it’d be to sleep in. On my last camping trip, I stayed in the car, warm and cozy all night. I’ve honestly never slept better outdoors.

A practical note for the U.S. side of things: installing a Level 2 charger at home cost around $1,500, though my utility company reimbursed part of it. Now my monthly charging cost is roughly $35 and I drive a lot.

Minnesota isn’t exactly EV heaven, especially if you love remote spots like I do, but with a bit of planning, you can make it work. More and more state parks are adding chargers too, which feels like progress that actually matters.

If you’re considering switching to an EV, feel free to ask. Before buying mine, I spent almost a month reading Reddit and watching YouTube, and after several months behind the wheel, I’ve learned a few things worth sharing

So from Bristol to London to Newcastle to Bristol again, around 670 miles. Started with a full battery, got home with just under half and spent a total of £58.47 on fastest possible charging (the most expensive you'll find). Try doing that on public transport. Just a train from Bristol to London off-peak is £70. If I can charge back up at home off-peak that will give me 150 miles of range for about £2.50. No extra time spent charging either, just during stops for food and comfort breaks. #EVlife
