El presidente de Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, propuso este lunes 14 de diciembre del 2020 que Cuba y su país gestionen un banco de vacunas contra el covid-19, que atienda las necesidades de todos los miembros del ente de integración regional Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos (ALBA-TCP). "Me atrevo a proponer, compañeros y compañeras, que Cuba y Venezuela asumamos un banco de vacunas contra el coronavirus (SARS-COV-2) y nos encarguemos de conseguir las vacunas, de transportarlas, y de preparar, coordinar y aprobar, de manera consensuada, el plan de vacunación masiva de los países del ALBA-TCP", dijo el mandatario durante la XVIII cumbre del grupo, celebrada de forma virtual. Maduro, que lanzó la idea tras recoger la propuesta inicial de un banco de medicinas que hiciera durante su intervención el primer ministro de Antigua y Barbuda, Gaston Browne, indicó que un "equipo científico del más alto nivel" recomendaría las acciones a tomar en una eventual vacunación masiva en los países del ALBA-TCP.
