no revenge, but this:

"They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?” (Revelation 6:16-17)

"All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me."

Jesus' authority comes not from power threatening brutality (that's the way of Rome), but from the self-giving, other-focused love of the eternal community of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Authority comes from a loving life lived for others.

So, the shamed, slandered, and murdered Jesus doesn't use this authority to seek revenge. Instead, he says, in essence, "Go to your enemies and help them enter and enjoy this same community of love."

Jonah 3:1–5, 10; 1 Corinthians 7:29–31; Mark 1:14–20 Jonah may have been the most successful preacher in history. He preached and an entire city repented, and a large city, at that. The church celebrates 4000 in one day as a supreme act, yet cranky Jonah exceeded that by far. We often question and scorn Jonah
