🇺🇸 The Eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius) is a colorful and intelligent member of the crow family found across Europe and parts of Asia. Measuring 32–35 centimeters in length with a wingspan of up to 55 centimeters, it weighs around 140–190 grams. Eurasian jays are easily recognized by their pinkish-brown plumage, striking blue-and-black barred wing patch, and pale crown with dark streaks. Highly intelligent and wary, they are known for their ability to mimic other birds and even human-made sounds. Jays play a crucial ecological role by collecting and caching thousands of acorns each year, many of which are never retrieved and thus help forests regenerate.

🇩🇪 Der Eichelhäher (Garrulus glandarius) ist ein farbenprächtiger und äußerst intelligenter Vertreter der Krähenvögel, der in Europa und Teilen Asiens verbreitet ist. Er wird 32–35 Zentimeter lang, erreicht eine Flügelspannweite von bis zu 55 Zentimetern und wiegt etwa 140–190 Gramm. Typisch sind das rosabraune Gefieder, das auffällige blau-schwarz gebänderte Flügelfeld sowie der helle, dunkel gestrichelte Scheitel. Eichelhäher sind sehr wachsam und bekannt dafür, Stimmen anderer Vögel und sogar künstliche Geräusche zu imitieren. Ökologisch spielen sie eine wichtige Rolle, da sie jedes Jahr tausende Eicheln verstecken – viele davon keimen später und tragen so zur natürlichen Waldverjüngung bei.
