Speak Low is the debut album led by pianist Walter Bishop Jr. which was recorded at Bell Sound Studios in 1961 and originally released on the Jazztime label.

Eugene Chadbourne of AllMusic stated "this is not a flashy keyboardist and also one who did not choose his debut as a leader to unveil a stack of up til then hidden original masterpieces of composition. He plays standards here, choosing either the long or short form for six different titles, some of them quite familiar" - Wikipedia

Other Afternoons is an album by American jazz saxophonist Jimmy Lyons, recorded in 1969 and released in 1970 on the BYG label as part of their Actuel series.

In his AllMusic review, Eugene Chadbourne awarded the album 4.5 stars, stating "this album stands out as containing much superior playing, springing from what seems to be a fully realized conception of just where the music was going". He wrote: "The combination of Lyons with Lester Bowie is simply marvelous. The alto saxophonist's speciality is a kind of pungent yet unsentimental tone, kind of a thinking man's Charlie Parker, while trumpeter Bowie seems to pack every note, whether it is blasted or delicately blown, with deep pockets of potential comedy or melancholy..." - Wikipedia

Folk Music by LaDonna Smith, Davey Williams, Theodore Bowen, released on Trans Museq in 1978.

Folk Music Review by Eugene Chadbourne

This release is one of the first group out of the gate from the Alabama free improvisation scene centered around then husband and wife Davey Williams and La Donna Smith.....This was also only the second record these musicians had produced ...Nonetheless, the title of this album was an important statement for the newly developing American avant-garde, as it promised, indeed threatened, a linkage between the music all Americans had grown up with and the strange-sounding mélange the improvisers were playing. The extent to which this idea annoys and frightens narrow-minded listeners is an enjoyable by-product of the work of these groundbreaking American musicians.

Volume One: Solo Acoustic Guitar by Eugene Chadbourne, released on Parachute in 1976.

Volume One Solo Acoustic Guitar Review by François Couture

Solo Acoustic Guitar, Vol. 1 was Eugene Chadbourne's first album (hence the title). Released in 500 copies on his freshly incepted Parachute label, it was recorded while the guitarist was still based in Calgary, Alberta. The seven instrumental pieces it contains are performed on acoustic and prepared acoustic guitar. Derek Bailey's influence is strong, but one also finds Braxton's conception of jazz and a bit of bottleneck blues permeating the music. Chadbourne even gets tender on "Love," a delicate composition. The highlight on this album is the loosely tied suite "Music for Mr. Anthony Braxton." The second part is especially interesting, featuring Bailey-esque strumming, the likes of which will hardly reappear in the man's career...

Enchance is an album by American jazz drummer Billy Hart recorded in 1977 and released on the Horizon label.

The Allmusic review by Eugene Chadbourne states, "The album actually seems to be something like the essence of so many enjoyable directions in improvised music during this period, and is full of the excitement such activity is known for when the action on the bandstand is at its best" - Wikipedia

Prairies Review by Eugene Chadbourne

"An aspect of our world that is in direct contrast to the image of prairies is the settled society, the neighborhoods, each house with its window into which the passerby -- hopefully not a peeping Tom -- could have a glimpse into someone's distinct personal universe. Each of these windows represents, possibly and most likely, a world of its own. The episodic nature of this duo's music, created with a combination of electric guitar, viola, and some vocalizing, brings to mind the previous image, pieces such as the appropriately titled "One Day in August" likely to unfold in a manner that is more like life itself than the traditional norms of instrumental composition. As for instruments themselves, any combination can represent a world of its own as well.."

The New Scene of King Curtis is an album by saxophonist King Curtis recorded for the New Jazz label in 1960. The album features Nat Adderley who performed under the pseudonym "Little Brother" on the original release due to contractual restrictions.

Eugene Chadbourne's review on AllMusic states: "for the 1960 recording, Curtis is accompanied by two-thirds of a famous Miles Davis rhythm section as well as a drummer who eventually became prominent on the Parisian swing scene ... Chambers and Kelly can not be too strongly emphasized as components of this brilliant group, carrying over their assets to the Curtis session as if shifting boxes from one side of a garage to another"

The Music of Ahmed Abdul-Malik is the third album by double bassist and oud player Ahmed Abdul-Malik featuring performances recorded in 1961 and originally released on the New Jazz label.

Eugene Chadbourne of Allmusic says "This jazz musician of Sudanese descent [sic] shows up here and there on recording sessions from the '60s, including a stint as a member of Thelonious Monk's combo. He also played oud and took part in a variety of attempts to blend his roots music with jazz, out of which this is one of the most successful".
