News Summary: Amazon Ends Support for Early Kindle Devices; Two Million Readers Affected

You know when you see someone's obituary and you think, "I could have sworn they died years ago"? Well this week begins with a story I could have sworn I had reported on some years ago (I think I was actually remembering this story about emergency updates to enable devices to stay connected).

  • agora é libre, pero funcionaba sen problema ↩︎

  • I only use my ancient Kindle for reading library books and a few Project Gutenberg downloads. Sounds like I'll still be able to do the latter but the former is now impossible, is that correct?

Big shout out to my man Jeff. I've been meaning to look into other e-readers for ages. Now, as the owner and regular user of an OG Kindle Paperwhite, I've been given the push I need!

Fediverse, what e-readers are you rocking? I'm in the market for a new one.

Love the size of the Paperwhite, and while I will not shop at the Kindle store again, the ability to read my old (Amazon) ebooks would be nice (but not dealbreaking).

#TechRadar Amazon bricking classic Kindles is a sign it learned nothing from Sonos' biggest mistake https://techrad.ar/G8mc #eReaders #Tablets
Your Kindle might be dying because Amazon didn't learn this lesson from Sonos

Amazon is about to kill almost a dozen Kindles, and it might be making the same mistake that tripped up Sonos.

@bsm @14mission @TeaKayB I confirm that PocketBook device aren't hooked to a given store: At least one can feed them with mostly any book format and the official store can be completely hidden. Also PocketBook publish SDKs, so one can develop custom applications or scripts (but prepare for a mostly undocumented context).
