Hello!

I am Xenophon Vos, a horror author and avid reader looking to bring a lot of #literature to your feeds. :)

I've recently moved from podvibes.co to be on a more general-use server where I feel more comfortable talking about stuff that isn't just podcasts, although I am very deep into the #AudioDrama community still.

I also read often, mostly physically, but I have recently tried to push myself into reading #audiobooks and want to try #ereaders soon. Some of my favourite genres are #sci-fi and #horror and I specifically love time travel as a narrative tool.

Kind of bummed out the Kobo Libra 2 is discontinued. Don’t need color. I have my iPad Pro for that.
But I’m definitely leaving Kindle this year.

I swapped my Android phone for this tiny ereader – and it could genuinely improve my life in 2026

Can an ereader do everything a phone can? I found out by giving the Boox Palma 2 Pro a whirl, comparing its features to those of my Android phone.

I've always been against #ereaders
I have one now and... yeah, I get it now.

I was really excited to hear about #QuillOS, an alternate firmware for #Kobo #ereaders. I hope to check it out tomorrow.

> Quill OS is an open-source, fully-functional standalone OS for Rakuten Kobo's eReaders.

@Allyn 20-30s is indeed impressively slow. But fits the spec and their argument why they didn't use that tech for #ereaders yet. The other faster color #eink tech seems to have had scale/production issues that prevented it from becoming mainstream yet. And the filter based color one is rather bleak. Its as fast as b/w eink though.

Have fun, post some updates! Do you know the price of that panel?

A while ago we were talking #kobo #eReaders. Just an update: I pulled the trigger & bought the missus a Kobo Clara colour eReader and now that I’ve had a chance to see it first-hand, here are some thoughts:

Someone (@zazzoo, maybe?) had mentioned the small size. This is true, although the screen is no smaller than the Kindle Paperwhite that it replaced.

Someone else mentioned that the colour screen looked ‘faded’. This is true: it kind of looks like what a colour newspaper print looked like, if anyone remembers those. It’s not a dealbreaker, though.

Integration with Overdrive and access to our local library (which was our primary use-case) works great. And for bonus-points the wife was able to set it up herself—not without some cursing.

Side-loading .epub books onto it is a breeze. Works like the Kindles used to: just plug the eReader into the computer and it shows up like an external drive. Drag and drop the .epub file into the root folder and you’re off to the races!

Overall: satisfied with the purchase, even though the price was a little steep IMO. ($169CA)
