Well, Sky makes a huge mistake by misunderstanding the questions of a mule caravan leader, which completely derailed the plot when I was writing the story (and made it better).
But I did anchor this misunderstanding on logic, and it made sense to me.
I believe that's the trick. The misunderstanding has to be believable and not just a plot device.

Moon's bravest moment sets off the story - the decision to flee her House and the Sacred Square.
Everything else after that is part of her effort to stay alive.
The second bravest moment is running into a burning house to save a kid, without even thinking about how it might reveal her powers.

#ScribesAndMakers 4/16 How do you feel about illustrations in (non-comic) books?
In fiction books I like chapter headers or graphics, although I am very much not a fan of inverted first pages in a chapter.
I really love it when a symbol indicates PoV in romance, for example.
I actually created chapter images for the Winds & Pillars - and those will come in very handy in the final book in the series.

Not a pet, not really, but South does befriend a small monkey by healing its broken leg. And the little monkey returns that favor manyfold.

Well, most of you got it right.
The word "Star" does not appear in the WiP (yet?).
A Star in my world is a person who can do magic and lives in a Priests' compound, where they may be sacrificed on a whim of their head priest. They are basically rejects of the Sacred Square.
Stars are not sacrificed as regularly as Winds & Pillars, but it happens. They don't get old.
