An extension of the "memory hole" approach that explains why we didn’t learn about WWII Japanese incarceration in high school. All legitimate, documented, extended moments of shame in US history are being "cleansed," 1984-style.

February 19 is the annual #DayOfRemembrance in Japanese-American communities. It marks the incarceration of more than 120,000 people, 2/3 of them citizens, by a US gov & populace fueled by fear & racism. #EO9066 was a gross violation of human rights & the constitution in 1942, just as the detention actions unfolding now are. It has *never* been more important to show up.

Day of Remembrance — JACL

(1/2) When #FDR issued #EO9066, #FredKorematsu, a native-born US citizen, refused. On #ThisDayInHistory in 1942, he was arrested, convicted, and sent to a #ConcentrationCamp in Utah. He appealed and #SCOTUS ruled that denial of #CivilLiberties on the basis of race was legal.
Today marks the commemoration of EO 9066, a significant event that, in conjunction with the Korematsu v. United States SCOTUS case, authorized the confinement of Japanese-American individuals in locations like the Amache Internment Camp situated near Grenada, Colorado.

@QasimRashid My father, aunt, and grandparents were incarcerated at #Topaz. I am *always* shocked that many US Americans have no idea this even happened. We are losing their stories...thank you for sharing this man's voice.
