For the exhibition “Revier.Umwelt.Protest!” in 2024 at the Energiefabrik Knappenrode I developed the key visual, the illustrations, the print materials, and, in collaboration with Stefanie Bendfeldt, the exhibition design. Here you can see the exhibition poster and some photos of the finished exhibition.

The exhibition connects information about ecological ideas, actions, and publications in the GDR with the current engagement for environmental protection among young people from Hoyerswerda.

In the design, I focused on the DIY spirit that shapes environmental protection, both in the GDR and today. A central element of the design is drawn hands performing various actions: they point, denounce, inform, write, and protest. They do all the things that environmental activists do. They are accompanied by speech bubbles in various forms—sometimes angry, sometimes dreamy, sometimes informative.

I particularly enjoy projects where I can learn a lot of new things: Here, I learned a lot about the environmental movement in the GDR, about coal mining in the Lausitz region, and the transformation the region is undergoing. It was a very intensive project and a good experience, and I’m very satisfied with my contribution to the result.
