R7 Class Spotlight: Funded Project Report Back on Indoor Air Quality Resources
Join partners from the Public Library of Brookline and the Hamden Public Library to hear how they introduced CO2 Monitoring Kits into their circulating collection. Panelists will discuss why they pursued these programs, how they catalogued the kits and introduced them to their communities, as well as lessons learned and what other libraries should know if they’re interested in pursuing a similar project.

Region 7 Presents: Funded Project Report Back on Indoor Air Quality Resources

This briefing highlights a significant link between environmental exposure to a commonplace pesticide and neurodegenerative risk, with clear implications for populations already at elevated vulnerability. The reported association between chlorpyrifos exposure and increased Parkinson’s disease risk, supported by both epidemiological data and mechanistic animal studies, offers meaningful insights for clinicians considering environmental and public-health factors in assessment and planning.

Two salient angles for mental health professionals:
- The potential downstream impact on symptom onset and functional impairment among patients with exposure histories, underscoring the relevance of integrated biopsychosocial assessment.
- The broader implications for communities in agricultural or industrial settings, highlighting the value of collaboration with public health and social services to address potential psychosocial stressors and access to care.

Yesterday we organised a radon training course in Barcelona together with ACPRO.Many thanks to the excellent speakers:
Laura Jornet, Dr Laura Mezquita, Jesús Fernández and Elena Cánovas.
And special thanks to all participants whose thoughtful questions and debates made the session truly engaging.🎥 In this video I share a few reflections after the training.#Radon #EnvironmentalHealth https://youtu.be/JVB3J_1lKWA

Exposure to pollution linked to depression, anxiety and other mental health issues

Reducing pollution, in line with the EU Zero Pollution action plan, could improve mental health across Europe, according to an EEA briefing published today. The publication covers the links between air pollution, noise and chemical pollution to mental health issues, as well as opportunities for action – including the positive effects of nature-based solutions on mental wellbeing.

The Cross-Canada Radon Survey is an important and frequently cited document.

But context matters.

When were the radon measurements conducted?
Building standards and testing methodologies evolve — and interpretation depends on understanding the timeline.

This brief highlights a population-level linkage between environmental exposure and a neurodegenerative outcome, underscoring the relevance of social determinants and physical health in mental health practice. For therapists, the finding reinforces the importance of integrating environmental context into case formulation and holistic care planning, particularly when assessing risk factors and long-term wellbeing in aging clients.

Breathing polluted air may do more than harm your lungs — it could also increase your risk of Alzheimer’s disease. In a sweeping study of nearly 28 million older Americans, researchers found that long term exposure to fine particle air pollution was linked to a higher likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s. The connection appeared to stem largely from pollution’s direct effects on the brain, rather than through related health conditions like hypertension or depression.
