Hey #energy folks. I am looking for data on end energy uses in buildings for either Virginia or the Richmond, Virginia metropolitan statistical area.

I've been digging into both the American Housing Survey data and the Residential Energy Consumption Data by the Energy Information Administration.

Unfortunately both of these surveys don't sample the Richmond MSA, and only infrequently sample specifically Virginia.

I'm ultimately looking to answer questions like "how many buildings use natural gas as their primary space heating source?"

Do you know some more exhaustive data sets I should be looking at?

DC rejected Washington Gas' expensive, irresponsible gas pipe renewal program today. Their public utilities commission claimed that the estimated cost of $4.5 BILLION was unjust and did not align with DC's climate goals.

As a commissioner on Richmond's Public Utilities and Services Commission, I hope to raise similar concerns and questions. Richmond Gas Works is sleepwalking Richmond residents into a financial disaster and I want to help stop that.

This is the most egregious gas leak Beyond Methane RVA has discovered yet 😱. One of our members found this pipe spewing gas on December 20th, 2023. Since then the surrounding building managers and necessary city officials have been notified, but no action has been taken! This leak is dangerous!

Is anyone able to explain reactive power to me like I’m five? I read this and I’m not entirely understanding it.

This article mentions that reactive power is tied to grid inertia, but I don’t understand how. I understand grid inertia and the need for things like synchronous condensers and grid forming inverters, but how is that at all related to reactive power other than both of them being characteristics of AC electrical systems?
