On this day, we focus on creating real social connections for people with Down syndrome. Everyone deserves to feel they belong and are valued.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀:
About 1 in every 1000 to 1100 babies worldwide is born with Down syndrome.
In India, nearly 1 in 830 live births has Down syndrome.
People with Down syndrome often face social stigma and fewer opportunities.
The day reminds us to support their rights, inclusion, and independence.
The 14th World Down Syndrome Day Conference in New York will discuss legal rights and decision-making for people with Down syndrome.

Let’s work together to make sure no one feels lonely or left out.

My friends don’t need to be psychiatrists.
I just need them to be friends.
I’m teaching them that sometimes "I hear you" is better than "Have you tried keto?" 🥬

AI doesn’t experience psychosis — people do. When chatbots give false answers, it’s a technical error, not a mental illness. Clear language protects patients and reduces stigma. 🧠🤖 #MentalHealth #AIethics #Telehealth #EndStigma

Today we recognise and support over 70 million people worldwide who stutter. Stuttering is a communication difference that can include involuntary repetitions, prolongations, and blocks — and often brings physical effort, anxiety and social barriers. This year’s theme, “A Diverse Stuttering Community – Meeting Challenges With Strengths,” highlights the many ways people who stutter use resilience, creativity and community to communicate and belong.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀
- Raises public understanding so myths and stigma are reduced.
- Promotes early identification and appropriate support for children.
- Encourages inclusive workplaces, schools and healthcare settings.
- Connects people who stutter with peer groups, therapy options and resources.
- Reminds us that one approach does not fit all — personalised support matters.

𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀
- About 1% of the world’s population stutters; roughly 5% of children go through a period of stuttering.
- Around 80% of children who begin to stutter stop naturally; those who continue past early school years are more likely to persist.
- Male-to-female ratio: ~2:1 in children, ~4:1 in adults.
- Stuttering is neurological and variable — myths like “stuttering = nervousness” or “stutterers are less capable” are false and harmful.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆
- Listen patiently; don’t interrupt or finish sentences.
- Use inclusive language and avoid pity or undue emphasis on fluency.
- Share resources and stories that normalise stuttering.
- Support local stuttering associations, events and advocacy.
- Encourage early assessment and evidence-based therapy for children when needed.

World Alzheimer’s Day — 21 Sept 2025: Alzheimer’s is not just forgetfulness or a normal part of ageing. Early signs—memory loss affecting daily life, confusion about time or place, trouble finding words, or personality changes—should prompt a respectful conversation and a medical check-up; early diagnosis and support can improve quality of life for people living with dementia and their families. This year’s theme, “Ask About Dementia. Ask About Alzheimer’s,” urges everyone to speak up, challenge stigma, and build dementia-friendly communities.

You can help by learning the warning signs, offering practical or emotional support to carers, and sharing accurate information so myths don’t spread; donate or volunteer with local Alzheimer’s organisations to fund care and research. Share to raise awareness and support someone today.

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 (𝟯𝟭 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱) calls attention to the global crisis of drug overdose, honours those who have died and supports people living with the consequences of overdose. Overdose occurs when a person consumes a substance in an amount their body cannot safely process, which can lead to loss of consciousness, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, or death; opioid-related overdoses are a major contributor and can often be rapidly reversed with naloxone, a safe emergency medication used by first responders, health services and community members. Increasing access to evidence-based treatments for opioid dependence, expanding naloxone distribution and training, improving prescribing practices, and promoting harm-reduction services are proven ways to reduce fatalities and long-term harms, while removing stigma encourages people to seek help earlier.

This year’s IOAD theme, “𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆, 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲,” highlights the shared strength of families, friends and communities working together to prevent overdose, support recovery and recognise grief without judgement. Public awareness, community-led events, and policy action — including better monitoring of opioid dispensing, limiting inappropriate opioid sales, and ensuring treatment availability for those using prescription or illicit opioids — are essential to lower overdose deaths. If you suspect an overdose, call emergency services immediately and administer naloxone if available; sustained prevention requires compassionate, coordinated efforts across health services, community organisations and families.
