Priti Patel is one of the most authoritarian Home Secretaries in UK history. Successive UK governments (including sadly Labour) have a very poor record in this area.

I intensely dislike Meta. However, invoking child protection concerns (the vast majority of people rightly regard child abuse as disgusting and worthy of condemnation) to extend the UK State's intrusion in private online communications is wholly unacceptable and must be thoroughly resisted.
