Just finished reading “Empire of AI” by Karen Hao, the story of the rise of OpenAI, how it went from non-profit to for-profit, and the insane speed with which AI has become so pervasive. Strikes the right tone of caution re: safety and governance. The multi-billion dollar investments and valuations of these companies is mad. Their theft of data, erosion of privacy and desire to rule the world is chilling. Good read especially if you’re interested in the topic but remain skeptical of those running it.
