I'm reading Emergent Strategy by adrienne maree brown. The book blurb describes it as "radical self-help, society-help, and planet-help".
It's encouraging to picture self-help and healing as connected with social healing. This book is not about individual, isolated "healing". It's about reimagining the world (and ourselves) to make it more human, more natural, and more beautiful in an enduring way.
Open source has an important role to play, in resisting fascism. Open source core values are naturally aligned with navigating complexity: local autonomy, technical excellence, networked flexibility and community sharing.
A case study of how we are deploying Quaive at IMIO, shows how this works in practice, in this talk, presented at #PloneConf24 in Brasilia.
Exercising care is not compatible with dominant economic frameworks even as these frameworks try to disguise exploitation as care, such as the underpaid nurses and teachers who are expected to give away their labor for the greater good.
In order to unsettle such ideological disguises and naturalizations, critical practice has to identify power differentials, explain how those differentials yield different (and unjust) outcomes, and articulate alternatives.
