Waiting for #Trump to repeal the #EmancipationProclamation because it is #DEI.

We Insist! (subtitled Max Roach's Freedom Now Suite) is a jazz album released through Candid Records in December 1960. It contains a suite that composer and drummer Max Roach and lyricist Oscar Brown had begun to develop in 1959 with a view to its performance in 1963 on the centennial of the Emancipation Proclamation. The cover references the sit-in movement of the Civil Rights Movement. The Penguin Guide to Jazz awarded the album one of its rare crown accolades, in addition to featuring it as part of its Core Collection. - Wikipedia

Far too many American think that the #EmancipationProclamation banned #slavery, when in fact it was just #EconomicWarfare aimed at seizing and freeing human 'property' of those living in rebel states. It came into effect for #Confederate territories on #ThisDayInHistory in 1863.

๐Ÿ—“ This Day in History โ€” September 22, 1862
Abraham Lincoln issued the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation.
He told the Confederacy: end the rebellion, or your โ€œpropertyโ€ will be declared people.

On January 1, 1863, he made good on that promise.
Not because the South listened.
But because freedom had to win.

Give it up for freedom. Always.

Lincoln Theatre commemorates Juneteenth with celebration of culture and community

While there are several Juneteenth events taking place all across Columbus, one venue stands out from the rest โ€” the historic Lincoln Theatre, which has served as a cultural hub for African-American communities since its opening in 1928.  The Lincoln Theatre โ€” located at 769 E. Long St. โ€” held its commemoration for Juneteenth Thursday [โ€ฆ]

On June 19, 1865, enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally learned of their #freedomโ€”two years after the #EmancipationProclamation. #Juneteenth is a reminder that #justice delayed is justice denied.

Today, we honor the resilience of all who have fought for freedom. But we also recognize that the struggle is ongoing for #truefreedom: #economicjustice, #votingrights, #healthcare, #livingwages, and #dignityforall.
