This talk from this past fosdem is pretty good. It lays out the software copyright system historically, and explains how we got to the present day with our current "normalcy" of clean room reverse engineering of code; and then shows the logical conclusion of what it could very well mean for FLOSS, with the advent of AI code generation.

It is long, but well worth your time.
