Prof. Rachel Thorn 🍉🇺🇦🏳️⚧️🏳️Okay, I really didn’t like Mint, so now I’m trying to install #elementaryOS. I cannot get past the “choose disk to install” screen. The continue button is grayed out, and the only choice is to cancel. I tried advanced install and it’s not at all clear what I’m supposed to do there, but regardless of what I do, I can’t install. I did a search, and apparently a lot of people simply can’t install it. On boot, there’s teeny tiny print that offers “options” and “command line.” #Linux

If you think their goal is making a just-barely-working operating system that they can inflict on the world due to their near-monopoly market position and then milk every cent out of it by serving ads and extracting as much user data as they can, they are geniuses.
My employer-provided laptop (a very nice 2024-or-so Thinkpad X14 running Windows 11) takes about 5 minutes from a cold boot to ready to work. My ancient personal laptop (an early 2014 MacBook Air running elementary os) takes about 45 seconds.
