PSA: because it has come up again: The Veritasium video on parallel wires and the lamp is WRONG.

1) The energy is not completely in the field. If that would be the case you could conduct DC power through insulators, which is, obviously not possible.

2) The lamp does not immediately switch on. Only once the current/signal has gone to the end and come back, will the lamp switch on.

In 1896, Guglielmo Marconi invented the first practical, long-range radio for transmitting Morse code.

Well this is weird. Had an old scanner that refused to power on despite multiple unplugs and replugs. It was obviously getting power as I could see some activity that looked like a RAM check, but it wouldn't power on. Went over and switched off an audio amplifier on the same circuit... and then the scanner worked.
