Caltrain to pilot the nation's first electric-battery powered train

Caltrain will test an electric train that can charge its battery when running on tracks with overhead power and then use that battery power in non-electrified stretches, the transit agency's leaders announced Thursday.

The UK needs to electrify about 13,000 km of railway (source: Network Rail).

Mileage electrified last year: less than 3km.

Not sure what's holding this back. There are no votes in refusing to electrify our railways.
