On the flipside I think #InternetCafés obviously need to shift as trends changed.

  • Not just in [P.R.] China but globally...

I seriously wished more of those would actually expand more into the #technical part and provide #DataRecovery and #Repairs, similar to #Electricians and #Plumbers do.

  • Cuz with all the shit being forced down peoples' throats re: #Apps one can say that a #Smartphone may just be their lifeline.

Just don't ask someone for a #wangba in China unless you want to get some seriously weird looks...

So I’ve got an unusual and slightly terrifying residential #electrical question from a friend.

They are indicating that they have an entire wall in their home that makes their non-contact voltage detector “light up like the Forth of July” when it gets near it.

I am not sure if this could be a false positive like maybe a radio source causing this, or worse a wire that’s broken that may have electrified some kind of interior steel framing (somehow without shorting to ground).

I’m going to ask them for more information. #electricity #electricians

Over the past bit I've been slowly but surely rewiring old electrical in an old home. I've found some truly terrible stuff, like just electrical taping conductors together outside a box, no nuts or anything.

What's interesting though is that on AFCI breakers, none of these have ever been a problem. In fact, even with all my radio and electronic equipment, sketchy grounds, etc., neither ACFI nor GFCI has tipped to date -- far from the story of the first generation of such devices. They do trip when a tester is plugged in.

But it's made me wonder: how well do AFCIs work? What's the precision recall curve? As in, what are the odds that an electrical thermal event could happen despite being on AFCI?

Makes me intrigued about using a space heater as a stress tester, though that comes with the risks of creating an actual thermal event.
