I gotta say, I'm not a huge fan of pickguards.

Even if the shape looks cool, I'd rather see wood grain, texture. I'd rather have the feel of a natural material over plastic or acryllic.

Instead of a black synthetic pickguard, why not ebony or any other wood, even if it's got a black finish? How about metal that's been hit with flame to colorize it? Roll the edges, embed it, or bind it. Give me a good finger rest while you're at it!

I guess it's fine on plain woods. Those almost always get painted anyway. Alternatively, they could be carved, burned, or inlayed with stone.

Март закончился, а между тем в марте исполнилось полвека этой красавице, которая живёт у меня с конца 2018 года. Советская гитара "Аэлита", названа в честь героини фантастического романа Алексея Толстого. Сделана в Ростове-на-Дону, по внешним признакам. Некплейт посеял кто-то из прежних хозяев, поэтому я считаю по наклейке на обратной стороне пикгарда (3 фото). Фольгу туда приклеил я, ради уменьшения шумов, но не скажу, что это сильно помогло. Более радикальных переделок, типа установки китайских звукоснимателей, я не делал и не советую делать: винтажный страт не получится, а гитара окажется испорчена. Ещё после покупки установил новые порожки ладов взамен изношенных и восстановил логотип на пере (4 фото) - маркером, по трафарету, найденному на sovietguitars.com.
Играю, к сожалению, реже, чем хотелось бы, но что поделаешь.

I just noticed that the levels of background crackle on my HSS guitar, with volume and gain up but muting the strings with my hand, are noticeably lower with the pickup selector in position 5 as expected, but also on position 2 (neck + middle pickups). 1, 3, and 4 are all about equally crackly.

Could the blending of two sets of single coils be acting equivalently to a humbucker to cancel out interference? Or is that likely just a coincidence?

So okay I've been trying to check out whether using my Linux PC as a guitar amp would be viable and I keep running into this NAM thing (https://www.neuralampmodeler.com/)

And very little else? And I'm like... come on. The only amp sim available, or at least one so popular it drowns out all other options, and it's based on a neural network? That sounds like "AI" hype driven overkill, right? At least to me as a complete newcomer.

Is there really nothing decent that just takes the obvious approach of applying simple, mathematically understandable algorithms to produce effects? Does it make sense somehow to use a neural network to do this? Is it performant? What's going on?
