On the 29th of January 1917, 109 years ago today, submarine K13 sank during sea trials in the Gare Loch on the west coast of Scotland killing 32 people, including 6 employees from the Fairfield Shipyard in Glasgow where it had been built. Miraculously, 48 other the people who were on board at the time were successfully rescued after some 60 hours trapped at the bottom of the sea.
