Welkin#Eisenhower refused to aid #France with bombing runs in #Vietnam during the battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954. He financed French operations but did not get involved.
#Kennedy broke that taboo by sending personnel to South Vietnam and financing South Vietnam
#Johnson went full Monty, with manpower, bombs, aircraft the whole ensemble. Initially with bombing runs only. That gradually escalated.
#Nixon capitulated in 1975 and #Saigon finally fell.
