This also points to the need to pay a HUMAN Editor instead of relying on only #AI or grammar-checker software to "edit" the book. Human eyes would have caught this. Chatbots and #Grammarly are NOT a full replacement for a paid #Editor . "Self-editing" does NOT replace a human Editor.

Humans will catch other things that AI tends to miss, like:

* A character's eye or clothing color changing mid-paragraph.

* Info dumps (NEVER use them).

* Overuse of the same word.

* Too much tell, not enough show.

* Homonymns and other words that spell-checkers won't catch.

* Inconsistent punctuation style.

* Paragraphs that REALLY need to be broken up.

* The most problematic issues with "self-editing" are the sentences where YOU know what you meant, but the reader will be confused.

A good #editor does far more than spellcheck. They are well worth their cost. A quality book uses human Editors.

One spelling mistake can destroy life...
A husband sent this postcard to his wife:
"I'm having a wonderful time. Wish you were her."

The forever conundrum of whether I want to pick up another editing client or just continue to work on my own stuff.

It's a common mistake. I've even seen some very keen-eyed editors make it.

Just remember: When the O's are in the opposite order, you get the short sound, like the "oo" in "good" or "book."😉

Proof once again that proper punctuation is very, VERY important.

Every time I go past this drive-thru window at a local Burger King, it just strikes me as funny. It doesn't say, "Continue to other window," or "Please pay at next window," or anything like that.

It just says, "The other window."

But if this is "the other window," then shouldn't I have driven past a *first* window earlier? (There is no earlier window.)

My editorial OCD is so set off by this. 😂

I would love to take some notes on this manuscript. But Percy says no. So I'll just be here waiting for her approval to get work done.

#Mockingowlroost is breaking industry standards in several ways. One way is to allow pushback from the writers. Does it work? Encouraging Pushback from Writers: An Industry Standard Break

One of the standards I have run across many times myself as a writer and journalist has been that of punishing writers for speaking their minds and expressing their voices. I can think of many times a professor, a fellow journalist, or writer’s club member has mentioned being suppressed at the hands of their editor(s). The editor holds all the power.
