In the lead‑up to next month’s federal budget, Treasurer Jim Chalmers must juggle global uncertainty, a fuel crisis and cost‑of‑living relief while weighing reforms to negative gearing, capital‑gains tax, a gas export tax and the NDIS. Former industry minister Ed Husic argues that Australia is “selling the country short” by earning almost nothing from about $170 billion of LNG exports over four years and insists Labor should “stare down” gas‑company pressure and pursue a fairer royalty or Petroleum Resource Rent Tax. He welcomes the Senate inquiry into gas taxation and warns the Albanese government not to be intimidated by multinational threats to relocate investment. On artificial intelligence, Husic calls for a comprehensive national AI Act and a dedicated regulator to set guardrails now rather than adopt a lax, reactive approach. He also urges stronger action against Islamophobia and antisemitism, recommending the Bondi royal commission broaden its remit and the government implement anti‑vilification laws and respond to the Human Rights Commission’s anti‑racism framework.

#crikey take on the #labor farce called leadership. #csiro #COP30 #edhusic the last of the true #labor only after he got shafted.
I think #edhusic is going to be very dangerous on the backbench. LOL #auspol #insiders #labor
This interview is a total coup for #Insiders. In the future this will be the moment that people look back to as the moment Labor knifed itself. #EdHusic #auspol

“Executives from billionaire Sanjeev Gupta’s Australian steelworks and mining operations in Whyalla are in advanced talks with Japanese steelmakers and traders looking to invest in a major expansion of the business.”

They’d have to have rocks in their heads. This is a guy who spends nothing, gets governments to invest, builds nothing, and defaults on loans.

He reckons his company GFG has refinanced and has $500 million to invest (probably via some other government suckers, ask the Belgians ).

He’s currently sweet talking the Feds and trying to convince the South Australian government to give him $50 million. Pshaw. His current creditors can’t get any of the $5 billion he owes.

He’s being investigated for fraud and money laundering. I hope Ed Husic and Makinauskas and Tom Koutsantonis are just humouring him or are trying to get revenge for Greensill investors and not taking this loser seriously.
