This is a portion of a large postcard and correspondence collection from the Schmidt and Chloupek families of Mishicot, Wisconsin. The majority of the correspondence in this set is addressed to Lillian Chloupek Schmidt (1888-1960), Anna Tesarik Chloupek (1861-1935), Victor Chloupek (1881-1930), Olga Chloupek (1891-1911), Edwin Chloupek (1893-1972), and Blanche Chloupek Cootway (1886-1955).

An August 15, 1951 newspaper article titled, “River Pollution Takes Toll.”

Article text:

Shown above is a group of more than 80 minnows, carp, suckers and rock bass found float­ing dead in the East Twin river on the Roland Samz farm, one and one-half miles south of Mishicot late last week. Manitowoc County Conservation Warden Herbert Vander Bloemen attributed the death of the fish to lack of oxygen in the river. According to Mr. Vander Bloemen, sewage and wastes spewed into the river by adjoining industrial plants and homes consume the oxygen and destroy plants in the river bed which produce oxygen. .Death of numerous carp—last fish to die in a polluted stream—indicates. the warden said, that the East Twin is intensely polluted.

Two newspaper clippings reminiscing about the early appearance of Main Street in Mishicot, Wisconsin.

Article text: Main St. in Mishicot looked like years ago. Top photograph is the view looking west; middle photo of Main St. looking east; and bottom photograph is a general street view of the village’s main thoroughfare. These photographs were supplied by Bernard F. Brouchoud of Sun Lake, Ariz.

This is a bird’s-eye view of Mishicot in a 1908 postcard provided by Alfred Grimm of Two Rivers. Note the Mishicot dam which is located on the river in the middle of the photo. In the background is Highway 147 which runs through the center of the village.
