When it's going to be starry night, my gear is always ready.

Wissenschaft pur!🧑‍🔬 #seti

A convenient followup: our paper on photometric calibration of the #eVscope just came out: https://doi.org/10.1117/1.JATIS.11.2.028002

Check it out 🙂

Here's an image I took of the Whirlpool galaxy in my backyard a few nights ago with an #evscope.

My backyard is not especially dark, there is a lot of #LightPollution. But the camera integrated the starlight for about an hour, and displays the background as black (with the light pollution removed).

Without light pollution, the background would still be black, but the galaxy have more details and would be more defined, because the signal to noise ratio would be much higher.

When I was born, our civilization didn't yet have evidence that other stars had planets.

Last night, I took measurements of a planet crossing the face of another star from my backyard with an #eVscope.

How cool is that?

Check out the flash from this #evscope #satellite observation. (Left is a still, right is a video - mouse over to see)

Last night, Sicco Bauer and I made simultaneous observations of the GOES 12 satellite through an #eVscope. Sicco was in Dresden, I was in Bochum (~450 km apart).

We both see a dramatic brightening of the satellite as it passes through the (different) field of view.

It's maybe not surprising, because the satellite is so far away that the angular difference is <1 degree. But still, it's cool that this can be done, and shows the utility of the setup.
