Your graphic novels just got a vibrant upgrade! The Kindle Colorsoft, Amazon's first color e-reader, is at a record low $170 this Black Friday. Because apparently, reading in black and white was *too* retro.
Are dedicated e-readers still relevant in a world full of tablets and smartphones? Discuss!

Something I've never done with my Boox device before: OCRing a PDF file... So I'm giving it a real challenge the first time I am trying it.... Project 2025. I feel dirty just saying those words -- but I need to read it. I need to udnerstand how deeply disturbing all of the current shit that is going on is going to get in the long term.

So, #Amazon's decision to remove #ebook #downloads on Feb. 26th has had an effect on me that I think is a bit on the surprising side.... Not only did I downlaod all of my books this weekend, but I also downloaded (neaarly) all the books I had on the Google Play Books, and finally got #Calibre working on my system.
I have, however, encountered an odd situation with Play Books that I wonder if anyone has encountered (if anyone is actually using Play Books). The situation: a long time ago (around 10 years), I uploaded a bunch of DRM free ePubs of technical books (mostly O'Reily books) to read on my tablet... It was the easiest option at the time.
Now, however, I can't download them. Whenever I try to download them I get a 404 page from Google. The weird part: I can still open them in the reader both on the web and the Android app.
I wonder if anyone else has encountered this issue, and if they found a workaround or fix for the issue?

Does anyone know of a tutorial/guide that I could use to set someone up for marking up documents digitally while #reading?
Here's what I mean:
I have a lot of students who only/primarily read digitally. They don't have printers, typically won't print out sources.
I've learned to work with that in a lot of ways, but *in class* we mark up sources on paper regularly, and I encourage students to take this action and apply it in their own reading at home. So there's a disconnect between the physical practice in the classroom and how some students are likely to do things at home.
I have all sorts of annotation tools for digital stuff, and notetaking tools that include PDF markup tools, but what I'm looking for is a guide that sets someone up for doing digital scribbling naturally, just as part of everyday reading for coursework: the best software to use, but also best practices, ways to make it more natural, easier.
Does anything like that exist?
