"...the company described the #Duwamish River as 'a natural collector for Boeing’s fluid wastes' in a 1950 magazine article Boeing produced for its employees. #Boeing said at the time that it had a handle on the situation — asserting, for example, that some of its most volatile waste would be neutralized by chemicals released by other polluters"

The company once described the Duwamish, one of the country’s most contaminated waterways, as “a natural collector” for its wastes. The Port of Seattle and Boeing accuse each other of failing to pay their fair shares for the cleanup.
I just finished reading "The River That Made Seattle: A Human & Natural History of the Duwamish" by BJ Cummings, founder of the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition.
It's a fantastic retelling of the history of the Duwamish people, Duwamish River, incoming industry & ongoing pollution, and the fight for environmental justice to protect Duwamish Valley residents & clean up the river from the past to 2020 when it was published.
