My 'Quærendo'-article 'Theosophy and Lettering' will soon appear as an A4 booklet for colleagues and friends, aptly designed by @sander Pinkse and partly set in @nicksherman's Lauweriks font (@HEX Projects).

On Klaas van Leeuwen’s 'Letterboek voor den teekenaar en ambachtsman', 1907.

J.S. Beekmann (1895-1986) was a highly regarded Dutch sign (and heraldic) painter. In the background a model of his Amsterdam script letter. The photo is by Paul Huf, as part of an advertising campaign for traditional craft beer.

Probably by Johan Beekmann (1895-1986), the leading Amsterdam sign painter of his day. Just happened to see it recently at the office of this association.

Martin Meijer compiled successful lettering books in the 1940s. Among others, he worked for the Bijenkorf, the Dutch Macy's. In the new issue of @blag a short article by me about his work.

Manuscript, 1937?, 26 leaves, maker unknown (priv. coll.).
A number of lettering books are known only as manuscript. Possibly they were intended for own reference and/or to offer clients a choice of designs. They may also have been art school assignments or simply hobby projects, and perhaps sometimes there was even an ambition to submit them to a publisher.
