Here are couple older Peijnenburg logo's which included the #DutchIJ : the company, founded in 1883 by Harry Peijnenburg, went through quite a few iterations. Spotted the last two attachments on an 125-aniversary-tin ๐ŸŽ‰
How many pictures I've taken of the supermarket's breakfast-cracker section, you ask? Countless, it is like a safe haven for #DutchIJ 's. In 2019 breakfast cake Peijnenburg rebranded and reintroduced the IJ in their logo. And the Albert Heijn supermarkt brand displays an IJ in "ontbijtkoek" (were they possibly inspired by P.? ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ); multiply this by the variations they carry and you can imagine the light shining bright in this isle..
That this golden lettering includes a lowercase #DutchIJ only makes sense โœจ Meet "Magazijn Nederland", a national monument at the corner of Spui / Spuistraat Den Haag. It was built in 1915 as a fashion department store by the architects Simons and Van Braningen, in the "Um 1800-Bewegung" style. It seems that since 1980 it's been mostly in use as offices, with retail space on the ground floor. Came across this treasure on my way to Fontstand's venue last year! The second Friday 13th of 2026 possibly warrants a biblical #DutchIJ perspective ๐Ÿˆโ€โฌ› Bijbelsche Geschiedenis by Jos Keulers, published in 1940 by Romen & Zonen
Radical feminist magazine "opzij" already knew what's up many moons ago, with her custom filled in Paperclip including a #DutchIJ by Dutch graphic designer Ad Werner.
Belgian singer Linda Lee's 'PARIJS!!! (heeft mooie vrouwen...)' record cover from 1988 sports Kaufmann's Balloon with a lovely custom brush script #DutchIJ !!!
Appreciate this #DutchIJ subtly staying relevant ๐Ÿ’• ๐Ÿ’– ๐Ÿ’ž #ValentinesDay
@frankrolf such a stunner #DutchIJ ๐Ÿคฉ (and also; what in the creepy song titles......). I've not yet seen this before, and I even attended the 'Dear, Amelia' talk in Copenhagen. Thanks for the tag, Frank! I will try to hunt down a copy..
For their 300th anniversary, the biggest Dutch lottery company, the Staatsloterij, revealed a new logo in Jan. 2026, flaunting a #DutchIJ โœจ For those who follow speed skating competitions, might have spotted this instantly..
In Bessy 'Vlucht door de Hel' (Willy Vandersteen, published by the Standaard Uitgeverij, 1980) the same #DutchIJ design is used for both upper- and lowercase ๐Ÿ” ๐Ÿ”ก It seems the typeface has an uppercase set drawn at x-height used in combination with titling caps, quite nice.. Also note the cute little baseline /g!.
