Joanne Ní Chróinín on Instagram: "I have to admit that I had such a nice time at The Park Café @parkcafedublin that I didn’t really pay enough attention to the photos I was taking. So you’ll have to rely on my words and not my photos. So read on… Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that Irish chef Richard Corrigan @chefcorrigan has opened Park Cafe in Ballsbridge, in the former location of Dylan McGrath’s Shelbourne Social. The interior has been given a solid revamp with well spaced tables. There’s a nice bar area upstairs, with very well priced and well made cocktails. A lot of spots that charge more and serve worse could learn from this. Downstairs, the restaurant is not yet operating at full speed. Corrigan is taking time to ramp up to full service, focussing instead on bedding in service and staff. It seems that quite a few of Corrigan’s London staff have come over to help get things going. That’s loyalty right there for you. The knock out dish is Peter’s omelette, or a classically made omelette, light and fluffy, served with a rich, smoky Bordelaise sauce and Irish snails from @inisescargot in Cavan. Prior to this, you could have slapped me silly and I would never have admitted that a rich red wine sauce and snails would suit an omelette, but here we are. You learn something new everyday. The Jamet kebab is the other dish worth a special visit with lightly spiced dhal acting as a carrier for a mixed grill of lamb chop, kidneys and liver. I must admit to always struggling with kidneys but these perfectly cooked beauties could be the way to covert me. As I sit at the end of my meal, I realise that Park Café is the restaurant that Dublin didn’t know it was missing. A classic well-priced bistro for long lunches and late nights. But now that it’s here, it will be obvious what was missing. #irishfood #irishfoodie #irishfoodblogger #irishfoodblog #irishfoodscene #irishfoodguide #irishchefs #irishchef #irishrestaurant #irishrestaurants #dublin #dublinfood #dublinfoodie #dublinrestaurants #dublinfoodguide #dublinfoodscene #dublindining #dublineats #dublin4 #ballsbridge #omelette #bordelaise #thisisdublin"

Handed the bill tonight while still finishing drinks/coffee, an hour and twenty five minutes after being seated. A first for me in Ireland.
I’d hoped to order an espresso and maybe linger for another 10 minutes chatting. It was almost 10pm at that stage so unlikely there was another sitting.
Despite the food being lovely I doubt I’ll return.

Gotta say, glad I came by early for some pizza! #DublinFood #DublinPubs #DrinkIrish
If I ever tell you to do anything, it will be to get yourself to Richard Corrigan’s new Patk Café restaurant and to order Peter’s Omelette. It’s served with a snail Bordelaise sauce and it is life #IrishFood #DublinFood #Ireland #Dublin

Thanks Plants, a vegan producer from Smithfield, Dublin 7, sent me a festive roast to try out. I cooked it up tonight and I have to say I was impressed by the flavour and texture. Quite festive indeed and would make a great addition to a Christmas sandwich. I’m not yet fully converted from meat, but would not object to this one iota.

No Messin’ is a superb bakery based in #Dublin7 and today they sent me a sample of their mince pies.
I’ve bought these mince pies several times in the past, and I’ll be doing so again this year, as they really are the best around.
No Messin mince pies will be available at Proper Order Coffee Smithfield from Sat 26th and pre-orders open December 1st. Oh, and the brandy butter, made with Highbank apple brandy) is also rather good.
