Day 30 of #jamuary, Yesterday I set up a poll & 2 #drummachines won, but 4 drum machines got some votes, & I've been wondering exactly how I would do a track w/4 #drum machines. What drum machines would I choose? I had to investigate.

This track is called "Pas de Quatre", which is French for "step of four". You might have heard this in the context of ballet and/or opera. But here is refers to using a 4/4 signature and using four step sequencers (the 4 drum machines).

Sometimes I write down drum patterns on graph paper, but it's kind of a drag. I was inspired to make a tool for this by old game save passcodes and the book 60 Drum Machine Patterns by René-Pierre Bardet (1987). Now I can write them down in a notebook or copy/paste for later use.

I have a Digitakt II but...I'm not sure I like Elektron's workflow. This thing is incredibly powerful, so maybe I'm just missing something?

For comparison, I am in love with my TR-8S. Hardware controls for every damn thing, sequencer is intuitive, but it's definitely a more limited machine than the Digitakt II.

Thoughts?
