Drought improved in parts of the Northwest, West and Upper Midwest in the past week but expanded and intensified in parts of the south, especially Tennessee and Mississippi, and in small areas across the Great Plains.

For the 50 states and Puerto Rico, the US Drought Monitor shows 35.9% in moderate drought or worse, compared to 34.75% last week.

Dryness or drought worsened in parts of the High Plains and South, with an area of improvement in southern Texas. Alaska also saw degradations.
Conditions improved in the Pacific Northwest and Montana, plus Hawaii. Parts of the Northeast, Southeast and Midwest saw mixed conditions.
