However, similar unattributed drinking fountains can be found outside Alexandra Park in Dennistoun (thought to have been made, at least in part, by the Sun Foundry) and Cowan Park in Barrhead.

The John Aitken Memorial Fountain at Govan Cross in Glasgow. Erected in 1884 as a memorial to Govan's first medical officer, serving between 1864 and his death aged just 41 in 1880, it is one of the few surviving examples of a decorative water fountain known to have been made by the Cruikshanks and Company foundry in Denny.

Love the little crocodiles in the canopy of the Govan Cross Fountain in Glasgow. Made at the Denny Iron Works in 1884 by Cruikshanks and Company, it's dedicated to John Aitkin, the first medical officer of health for the Burgh of Govan. This drinking fountain is not unique in having crocodiles in its canopy, and identical crocs can be found in at least two other Glasgow drinking fountains.

Love this 1904 Art Nouveau style drinking fountain at the Mugdock Reservoir on the outskirts of Glasgow, especially the water spirit and the mermaid on either side of the original tap location. It's dedicated to James M. Gale of the Glasgow Corporation Water Department.

A surprising number of Glasgow's cast iron Victorian drinking fountains are infested with crocodiles, like this one at Govan Cross.

The Cameron Memorial Fountain on Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow. Designed in a Baroque style by Clarke and Bell, it was erected in 1896 in memory of the MP and temperance campaigner Charles Cameron. Given this, it's rather ironic it's been nicknames the Tipsy Fountain because of its noticeable lean. Local legend has it this is due to the construction of the nearby M8 motorway in the 1960s, but this is unlikely as its lean was first noted in 1926.

Love the Art Nouveau font on this plate from a fountain on Saint James Street in Glasgow. William Annan was a publican and spirit merchant who donated several drinking fountains to Glasgow, the most ornate of which can be found at the top of Renfield Street. Annan died in 1915 and is buried in Sighthill Cemetery.

Wow, seriously? That much?!

William Collins Memorial Fountain on Glasgow Green. Erected in 1881, it features a sculptured bronze female figure by John Mossman.

Many of Glasgow's Victorian public drinking fountains, including this one, were associated with the temperance movement. They aimed to provide a safe and free alternative to drinking beer and other alcoholic beverages at a time when clean water was only just becoming readily available in the city.
