I played some more of #DragonQuestMonsters Caravan Heart last night. I offer these thoughts:

+ Playing it immediately after DW2 was a fortuitous accident as there a lot of callbacks to that game.
+ I am happy the translation patch uses the old localization for monsters and spells
+ This game is hard, largely due to painfully slow grinding. I around 14 hrs and the low exp prevents reforming to better monsters or getting useful skills.
+ Battles are very slow, largely due to having 6 party members.
+ While food isn't a big problem, it's a constant drain on money up to the point I am at. I can go out and grind, make 200 gold, then turn around and just buy food to replace what I used.
+ I like having the Caravan with me and being able to move it around. It's a pretty neat concept. I am hoping the game opens up a bit soon so I can more fully use it.

The overall slow battles and grind make it a hard game to fully recommend, but it is one of the most interesting and bold #DragonWarrior games.

Finally finished Dragon Warrior II after like a decade. I don't know if I loved it or hated it. It is a crazy leap in scope, and I like how nonlinear the post-boat section is, but there are way too many random quest items and random people that want a random thing. I'm glad I knew about the EvilStatue thing in advance or I never would have finished the final dungeon.

I would be interested to see how the part with the boat could be optimized. I definitely did a lot of zig-zagging around the world fumbling my way to figure out where to go.

And I still don't know if the characters have canonical names. I went with Mide, Art, and Nana.

After about 7 years and probably 200+ hours, I finally got every single monster in #DragonWarriorMonsters. Last monster was Dark Drium, which unfortunately requires breeding away Watabou. I can't fathom how many metal babbles died for this.
