Today, we're on the verge of eliminating a second disease -- Guinea worm -- because of the efforts of Jimmy Carter and the Carter Center.
In 1980 there were 36,000 cases of Guinea worm disease. In 2023, there were 14.

According to Wikipedia there's been one confirmed case in Chad now in 2024.
"As of June 2024, there has been only 1 confirmed human case of guinea worm, in Chad, but hundreds of cases continue to be reported in animals.[84]"

Polio eradication is suffering some setbacks this year, though still very very low case counts compared to 40-50 years ago.
